The Pure Pages Society

Craving epic novels but not interested
in spice?

You are invited to join The Pure Pages Society, a free online book club dedicated to clean reads!

We meet through the Fable app, and every month we vote
on a spice-free adventure story of any genre to enjoy together. We read just about anything, from historical fiction to fantasy to dystopian, and have spoiler-free discussion rooms to share quotes, reactions, and chat about the book!

If you want a thriving community to find more great reads without accidentally wandering into a book you’re uncomfortable with, this is the place for you!

Sunrise on the Reaping

by Suzanne Collins

The phenomenal fifth book in the Hunger Games series!

When you’ve been set up to lose everything you love, what is left to fight for?

As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.

Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

Then Haymitch’s name is called.

He’s torn from his family and his love, and shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who’s nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town.

As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he’s set up to fail. But there’s something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.

What is the Fable app?

Fable is a completely free online platform dedicated to book lovers. Think of it like Goodreads—where you can track what you’re reading, find book reviews, etc—but with a more clean, user-friendly interface. It’s also a bit like your favorite social media platform, where people are always making posts about what they are reading, sharing quotes, and more.

My favorite part is the stats: Fable tracks how many days you read, what your top genres and authors are this year, and your reading goals. It’s a great way to find accountability and reach your goals!

You can purchase ebooks directly through the app, too! If you make your account through my signup link on this page, you will receive $5 off an ebook of your choice.

For slow or busy readers, how fast does the club move through books?

We read one book per month, and usually have the new read voted on by the end of each month, giving you plenty of time to find a copy and read at your leisure.

You are not obligated to read every book we choose if you don’t wish to! Many of our members join, and wait until we start reading a book that catches their eye. You can join the community any time, and wait until we find a book you’re interested in before you start. It’s up to you!

How appropriate is the club for teen readers?

The Chats: I moderate each discussion thread, and make sure there is nothing inappropriate or offensive. This is a wonderful group and we have never had concerns with the public conversation between club members.

The Books: We read spice-free reads only! (For the boundaries of the club, that means that any romance never gets stronger than fade-to-black scenes. Nothing explicit here!) When we vote on a new read, I always share the spice rating and content warnings for each option. If there
is a book you are uncomfortable with, you do not have to read it.

Disclaimer: I try my best to accurately present the content of each story, but keep in mind that most of the books we vote on I have not read myself,
so I depend on the internet and reviews. I am not held responsible for missing a content warning beforehand, though I do my best to find them all.
